Recognising the limits of a self‑funded model
As G&H’s contractor portfolio grew, the pressures on manual processes and self‑funding quickly became clear. Simon explains: “As our business grew, it became clear that a self-funded model wasn't sustainable for the level and scale of complexity we were reaching. We were quite manual in how we processed timesheets, approvals and invoices too, and it just wasn't as joined up as we needed — there were clear administration pain points.
“The more contractors we had, the more financial risk exposure we had too. We also experienced a couple of situations where we incurred some fairly substantial losses as well, due to a lack of dedicated credit control focus.
“We were interacting with some established players, who obviously had their own nuances and complexities in how they operated too. So that just highlighted for us a stronger need for safeguards and risk mitigation. We needed a more robust infrastructure, particularly around compliance, financial security and contractor management.” Simon summarised why a change became essential:

Discovering 3R’s complete solution
What started as a simple search for a better timesheet portal quickly shifted once the team understood the value of 3R’s offering. Simon recalls: “Joel [Co-founder] had spoken to a couple of individuals about timesheet solutions, but the feedback was that they weren't great. We’d been following 3R for a few years and as soon as we’d had a further exploratory conversation and really delved deeper into the complete solution 3R offered — it was at that point the penny dropped. He went, ‘ah, okay, this makes sense, this is exactly what we need.’

“There are several aspects we value really highly. The Back Office portal itself is excellent. It's intuitive and data rich. It allows us to easily interact, generate reports and get key insights into our contractor portfolio, which is great.
“Absolutely the compliance support. The overseas hurdles you’ve supported with, the contacts in your network and the clear explanations of why things have to be done in certain ways. That's really, really valuable. Especially for some of our key clients where it's helped us win further business.
What we value the most is the human‑centred approach of 3R. It's fantastic. We speak to the team regularly and you feel like an extension of our business.
“We know if we've got an issue, we can get on the phone immediately. There's no ticketing or anything like that. Your customer service is fantastic. Everyone's extremely helpful and friendly. Everyone's also knowledgeable, approachable and responsive.
“One of the real bonus points is that you are proactive in asking for feedback on your products - you take it on board, build, implement and adjust certain aspects. And I don’t think a lot of businesses really do that.”
